The Pharaoh's Servant - Black Magician is a reference to how the original Black Magician was oft referred to as a "faithful servant" in the Duel Monsters anime/manga. Its last effect is a reference to the effect of Black Magic—modeled after the original Black Magician's attack name.

Multiplying Kuriboh! is a reference to how Yugi Muto often used the Magic Card Multiply to create countless copies of his Kuriboh in the Duel Monsters anime/manga, which proved useful in blocking the opponent's attacks and absorption effects. The card's name is also a reference to the title of the Duel Monsters episode in which the Kuriboh-Multiply combo was first used: Kuribohs Multiply! The Shocking Conclusion.

Curtain of Black Sorcery has a similar name to the original Curtain of Black Magic, and its effect is a more accurate recreation of the latter's from the anime/manga—which allowed each player to summon a "black magician" from their Deck. Its artwork is a further reference to the first time Curtain of Black Magic was used by Pandora in the anime/manga, which allowed Yugi to bring out Black Magician Girl in her first-ever appearance in the series. Additionally, Black Sorcery (Kuromadō) is written with the same kanji as the ones used in the kanji subname for Black Magic ("Dark Magic Attack").

Favorite HERO Shining Flare Wingman gets its moniker from the fact Judai Yuki often referred to Elemental HERO Flame Wingman as his "favorite card" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. The monster's on-Summon effect is a reference to two cards commonly used by Judai in the anime: Hope of Fifth and Skyscraper.

Favorite HERO Flame Wingman is based on how the original Elemental HERO Flame Wingman was often used in a combo with Skyscraper in the GX anime, and the monster's pose in the artwork is a reference to a scene from the first episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX in which Flame Wingman is shown striking the same pose atop the needle of one of the skyscrapers on the field.

Winged Kuriboh Sabatiel LV10, and its first effect, are based on The Philospher's Stone - Sabatiel—a card from the GX anime whose effect allowed it to be swapped out for any card the player wished for from their Deck or Graveyard. Its damaging effect is based on the original Winged Kuriboh LV10, which was first used when Judai had only 1000 Life Points left. The card's artwork also depicts the Emerald Tablet—the Dark Item used by Amnael—which was necessary for the creation of The Philosopher's Stone.

Victim Sanctuary is the effect name of the original Stardust Dragon in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime.

Starjunk is another possible translation for the Japanese term hoshikuzu ("stardust"), while also being a play on the original Junk Synchron.

Synchro Emergency is a reference to Urgent Tuning (whose name could also be translated as "Emergency Tuning")—a Trap Card with a similar effect played by Yusei Fudo in the anime. The artwork depicts a scene from Road to Tomorrow ~Going my way!!~—the fifth and final opening theme of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's—in which Yusei is shown summoning most of his mechanical-themed Synchro Monsters.

Messenger of Light was an epithet Astral used to describe the original Numbers 39: Emperor of Wishes - Hope during the final Duel, between Yuma Tsukumo and Astral, in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime (in the ZEXAL manga, it is Yuma instead who uses this epithet during the manga's final Duel). Its immunity to destruction by battle, except with another Numbers monsters, is an effect common to almost all Numbers in the anime, while its ATK-doubling effect is a reference to how Yuma often used Double-Up Chance in a combo with Hope's own attack-negating effect to double its ATK and let it attack again.

Gagaga Magic is the attack name of the original Gagaga Magician in the ZEXAL anime, and the card's artwork depicts Gagaga Magician performing the attack.

Zero Zero Call is the effect name of the original Gagaga Girl in the ZEXAL anime.

The Four Heavenly Dragons is a collective term used to refer to the four Dragon-Type monsters used by Zarc in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. They were each considered the pinnacle of their respective Summoning methods.

Horoscope Magician is a reference to both the attack and Pendulum Effect names of the original Star-Reader Magician in the ARC-V anime: Horoscope Cutter and Horoscope Divination, respectively.

Stars and Frost is a poetic Japanese term referring to the passage of time, and also a reference to Pendulum-Graph of Stars and Frost—a Magic Card which features the original Astrograph Magician in its artwork.

Decode Talker Integration is a reference to the name of the original Decode Talker's ATK-increasing effect in the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime: Power Integration. The monster is also shown holding in its left hand a sword similar to the one wielded by Dark Knight @Ignister.

Cyberse Code Magician is a remake of the original Cyberse Magician, with the Code moniker being a reference to the Code Talker theme of Link Monsters used by Playmaker in the anime.

Cyberse Contract Witch is a remake of the original Cyberse Witch, with the Contract moniker being a reference to a line said by Playmaker during the Ritual Summon of Cyberse Magician: "The contract has been made." The monster's pose in the artwork is also similar to a pose struck by Cyberse Witch during her Link Summoning sequence in the anime.

Yomi is the Japanese term for the underworld, often referred to as the land of the dead in Shinto mythology.

The destruction effect given by Magic-Sealing Sword of Oreikhalkos is a reference to the effect of Black Magician Girl the Dragon Knight in the Duel Monsters anime, which this card was used on and had its effect sealed away.

In Norse mythology, Bifröst is a burning rainbow bridge that reaches between Midgard (Earth) and Asgard, the realm of the gods.

Kusanagi is named after the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (lit. "Grass-Cutting Sword")—a legendary Japanese sword and one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan. Its title of Gathering Clouds is a reference to the sword's original name: Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi (lit. "Heavenly Sword of Gathering Clouds").

W:P Fancy Ball is a play on the names of Security Force Rappa Chiyomaru (whose Japanese name includes the kanji for "circle") and I:P Masquerena (who is based on a masquerade, which is a type of ball). W:P is pronounced "whoopee," and in Japan, the English letter W is often used to denote something being a double (referring to Masquerena and Chiyomaru teaming up in the artwork).
